Principal

Mrs Linda J. McLellan (C.S.T.D. Th.Dip, C.S.T.D.  T.St.Dip)

Linda commenced dancing at the age of 3 years old and trained under the careful eyes of Miss Edna Nelson and Kelvin von Reinhart.  Being involved in the CSTD examinations from the age of 4 years, a member of the Society since 1983, Linda is dedicated to promoting the love of dance and music to her students.

Linda believes that providing a safe and friendly environment for students to be involved in outside of school is important, not only for health and fitness, but also for socialising.

Staff

Due to our school being a Teacher Training School, lots of our classes are filled with not only qualified teachers, but also help from several qualifying Assistant Teachers.  This provides all the necessary help for students when required.  All teachers strive to help every child reach their potential in a loving and caring manner.

History of the School

Principal, Linda McLellan, opened the school in Yarrambat in 1983 providing the necessary dance lessons for children of the Whittlesea, Nillumbik and Diamond Valley Shires.  With the academy having such a good reputation, students travel from as far as Wallan, Kilmore, Kinglake, Research, Eltham, Macleod, Bundoora, and also from nearby Laurimar, Doreen, Mernda, Diamond Creek, South Morang and Whittlesea, to participate in classes at the school.  Modern vocal singing lessons commenced in 2007 providing a much needed extra for dancing students.

The school caters for both girls and boys from 3 years of age to adult, beginners to professional levels.

We provide a fun, disciplined and safe dancing environment for all students to learn the art of dance.  We aim to develop each individual student to reach their full potential and to pass on a love of dance and music, whilst developing strong technical and performance qualities in all students.

We offer two sessions of CSTD examinations to eligible students, May and August.  Solo competition work is also available to students.

The Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing Inc.

The Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) had its beginnings in 1933 and was founded by Australian dance education pioneer, Dorothy Gladstone.  The CSTD’s primary objective is to “encourage the art of dance”.  The CSTD is an authoritative examining body whose high standards are internationally respected.  Exams are offered not only in Australia but the South East Asia regions of Singapore and China (where they are government accredited), Malaysia, Thailand, India, Brunei, The Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong.  Exams commenced in Canada in 2009.
International Summer Schools are conducted in various states and in Asia.

Many CSTD trained students have gone on to international success in the professional ranks in ballet, stage and musical theatre.
